April Beckham & Troy Hendrixson: A Homewood Wedding

How We Met: Troy and I (April) met on a dating app. After a great two-hour phone call, I agreed to go to dinner. Our dinner turned into a four-hour first date!

The Proposal: On a hike at Moss Rock, Troy attached the ring to a silver bow tie collar and put it on my dog Boomer. Boomer came running up to me, and Troy got down on his knees to propose. We showed up at my mother’s house for pictures, and the living room was full of friends and family there for a surprise engagement party! COVID hit a few months later, so that party turned out to be the only party we were able to have during our engagement.

Favorite Details: We originally planned a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, and then COVID arrived and forced us to abruptly cancel our wedding plans. About a month before our wedding date, everything was still up in the air, and we did not know what to do. We reached out to Ashely Berkery and decided to plan a backyard wedding at my childhood home. With just one month to plan, Suzanne Martensen and Ashley transformed my mother’s backyard into a beautiful wedding venue! The ceremony was very intimate with family and my labradoodle Boomer, who accompanied the ring bearer down the aisle.

Favorite Moment: Immediately after the ceremony we were called to the front of the house for additional pictures, but it was actually for a surprise a wedding parade coordinated by a close friend and Ashley. We were stunned! It was a very emotional moment with lots of tears since we were unable to have friends at the wedding. My small backyard wedding turned out far more special than any wedding we could have had in Cabo San Lucas!
