1. Downtown Homewood Christmas Parade + Star Lighting

You can’t get much more Homewood than the lighting of the 18th Street star, and the annual parade is the same night to boot. After the parade ends at City Hall Plaza, a special visitor in a big red suit will arrive, the Homewood High School Band will play and the Christmas tree will be lit.
2. Inspecting Carol
Dec. 5-8, 12-15
Homewood Theatre, Brookwood Village
Get your holiday cheer on with this hilarious, madcap comedy from Homewood Theatre. It’s a behind-the-scenes look when all goes wrong in a slapdash production of A Christmas Carol. Get your tickets at homewoodtheatre.com, and don’t forget the theater is now located inside Brookwood Village.
3. Celebrate Christmas with Samford Arts
Friday, Dec. 6

Samford University Wright Center
Celebrate the season’s magic and music with the Samford University Orchestra, A Cappella Choir, Gracenotes, University Chorale, and Worship Arts Ensemble alongside Samford faculty and the Samford Dance Company. It is a gift to the Samford and greater Birmingham community from the School of the Arts. Tickets are free of charge, but they are required to attend.
4. Miss Heritage
Saturday, Dec. 7
7 p.m.
Homewood High School
Come out to see which Homewood High School student is crowned the winner of this annual scholarship pageant. A queen will also be named for each class.
5. Legacy League Christmas Home Tour
Thursday, Dec. 12
10 a.m.–2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m.
Tour homes in all their festive glory—plus festive hors d’oeuvres and a holiday gift market at the Samford president’s home. Proceeds benefit the Legacy League’s scholarships to Samford University for students with significant financial need and challenging circumstances. For tickets visit samford.edu/legacyleague/.
6. The Nutcracker
Dec. 13-15, 20-22
Friday & Saturday 7:30 p.m.

Did you know only eight companies in the world are licensed by The Balanchine Trust to perform the George Balanchine version of The Nutcracker, and one of them is the Alabama Ballet? Come get transported to the lands of sugar plum fairies and toy soldiers with Tchaikovsky melodies.
7. Opera Birmingham Presents Sounds of the Season
Sunday, Dec. 15
2 p.m.
Samford University Wright Center
Drawing on the talent of the Opera Birmingham Chorus, the concert will feature solo and ensemble performances by native Birmingham artists to set the perfect mood for the holiday season.
