2. The Homewood Public Library’s Student Art Contest

The Homewood Public Library

The Homewood Public Library is hosting an art contest for Jefferson County students in kindergarten-12th grade. Students may submit one, original piece of artwork weighing less than 50 pounds for judging. Drop-offs will be located in the Children’s Department, which will be accepting pieces until Saturday, Sept. 30. Art will be judged by a panel of local artists with awards being presented to the first, second and third-place winners in the following age categories: kindergarten-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade. All accepted entries will be displayed in the Ellenburg Art Gallery at the Homewood Public Library. For more information, visit here

3. Patriot Day Celebration

The cities of Homewood, Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills will host a joint Patriot Day celebration and 9/11 remembrance ceremony this month, featuring a flag ceremony and speeches from city officials commemorating our nation’s heroes and the lives lost on that tragic day. 4. Miss Sims’ Garden’s Pumpkin and Mum Sale

Miss Sims’ Garden’s annual pumpkin and mum sale will kick-off this month, featuring a pumpkin patch, children’s crafts, tricks and treats, a daily scavenger hunt, a scarecrow trail and more! Back for the fourth year, the anticipated scarecrow contest will feature children’s homemade scarecrows set up throughout the garden. Pumpkin patch visitors will vote on their favorite scarecrows throughout the season, and the winners will be announced on Halloween! Overflow parking is located at the Homewood Public Parking lot. 5. Dinnertainment

The Country Club of Birmingham

The Exceptional Foundation is hosting its 10th anniversary celebration of “Dinnertainment” this month! The dinner and a show will feature members of the Exceptional Foundation showcasing their talents in art, music, theater and more! Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Tables will fill up quickly, so those interested should purchase their tickets soon here.
