The Proposal
Ashton thought the deck in my backyard would be the perfect place for a proposal! He asked my parents and friends to decorate while we were out with some friends who were in on the surprise. The deck was beautiful with flowers, candles, pictures and a lighted “Marry Me” sign. He thought the only way to discretely get me into the backyard was to leave the gate to the backyard open, knowing I would immediately march back there to close the gate. I was in total shock as Ashton got down on one knee. After proposing, our family and friends popped out, and we enjoyed celebrating the rest of the night. Surprising me is hard, but he pulled it off!
Favorite Wedding Moment
My favorite moment of the ceremony was walking down the aisle with my dad. We processed to “Amazing Grace,” and while it took a minute for me to see through the tears welling up in my eyes, I was amazed at how beautiful the church was. Family friends, Angela and Linda, were so generous with their time and talents in creating a stunning altar of flower garland and tall arrangements with bright flowers. Mary Donald, a gifted florist, completed my vision with additional flowers at the church and reception. They all worked together to make my dreams come true!
Favorite Wedding Detail
I was very close to my grandmother and always thought she would be involved in my wedding planning. She passed away six years ago, but my mom made sure she was still a part of my special day. I was sitting down while my mom was helping me put on my shoes. I lifted my dress and saw a blue heart that was sewn into my dress. Upon closer look, I saw the touching words, “Walking with you always,” Love, Nanny. My mom had the foresight to save my Nanny’s blue silk pillowcase when she passed away. My mom worked with Carolyn and Kathy from The White Room to cut out the heart and sew it on my dress. I knew my Nanny was truly walking with me.
