Halloween is over but it’s not quite Christmas, so what is going on? Here’s our list of what to do and see around Homewood this month.
1. Friends of the Homewood Public Library $5 Bag Sale
Sunday, Nov. 4 | 2-4:30 p.m.
Homewood Public Library Friends Bookstore
Fill a grocery bag with books, movies and other items for only $5 per bag. The bags provided by the Friends of the Homewood Public Library. To donate books, or for more information, contact the Friends Bookstore at (205) 332-6651. The bookstore is located on the lower level of the library.
2. Holiday Open House
Thursday, Nov. 8 | 5 p.m.
Downtown Homewood
Get a head start on holiday shopping season at this annual Homewood Chamber of Commerce event. Peruse your favorite downtown Homewood shops and enjoy refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, a trolley, shopping discounts and more.
3. Sunday Jazz & Coffee in the Gardens
Sunday, Nov. 11 | 2-3 p.m.
Sims Gardens, 908 Highland Road
The Birmingham-Southern Jazz Band will fill this Edgewood garden with tunes, and coffee will be available for purchase. Find more information here.
4. Grateful Dads Fall Band Jam
Wednesday, Nov. 14 | 5:30-9:30 p.m.
Cahaba Brewing
Come out to see Homewood dads jam away over some local brews and bites. Plus, it all benefits the Homewood City Schools Foundation. This year’s show will feature Three Legged Dog, Talent Show and Legal Limit, plus food from Little Donkey. Get your tickets here and get ready to rock “DadHead” style.
5. Shred It!
Friday, Nov. 16 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Homewood Public Library Back Parking Lot
Come out to shred and recycle your documents and electronics with Secure Destruction’s shredding truck. Please do not bring any metal or plastic, and there is a limit of two bags or boxes of documents per person. Protec Recycling will also be on hand to recycle old computers, household electronics, small appliances and other items.
6. Homewood Band in the Thanksgiving Day Parade
Thursday, Nov. 22 | 8 a.m.

Look out Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, they’ll be back this year, 40 years after their first debut and the ninth time to go!
7. Christmas Collective
Thursday, Nov. 29 | 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

What do you by the person who has everything? Something made by a local artist of course. This free event will feature handmade pottery by Susan Gordon Pottery, Carrie Pittman Fine Art, wreaths by Huckleberry Collective, original works By Lacey, art by Hutton Harsh, paintings by Vaughan Spanjer, custom paper goods by Empress Stationery, and handcrafted woodworks by Alabama Sawyer, with treats and cocktails by Savor Style to boot. Follow Black Friday with a day of shopping local at your favorite Homewood retailers. Use the hashtag #ShopHomewood to win gift cards, support local businesses and show your community support with this effort organized by the Homewood Chamber of Commerce.

Downtown Homewood Christmas Parade
Tuesday, Dec. 4 | 6:30 p.m.
Downtown Homewood
You can’t get much more Homewood than the lighting of the 18th Street star, and the annual parade is the same night to boot. After the parade ends at City Hall Plaza, a special visitor in a big red suit will arrive, the Homewood High School Band will play and the Christmas tree will be lit.
