It’s time for Friday night lights, plus markets, live theatre, festivals and more. Here find all the details on what is going on where.

1. Classic Movies at the Library: The Miracle Worker

Friday, Aug. 2 | 1-4 p.m.

Come out to see the 1962 classic film highlighting the story of Anne Sullivan’s struggle to teach Helen Keller, who is blind and deaf, how to communicate.

2. West Homewood Market

Tuesday, August 6 | 5-8 p.m.
160 Oxmoor Road

Pick up farm-fresh produce and dinner from your favorite food trucks. Plus shop around at arts and crafts vendors or take in some live music. The first Tuesday of August is the last market for the 2019 season. Learn more at westhomewood.com.

3. The Bankheads Documentary with the Filmmakers

Thursday, Aug. 8 | 6:30 p.m.
Homewood Public Library

For nearly a century, three generations of the Bankhead family from north Alabama distinguished themselves in American government and culture. Come out to view a 2016 APTV documentary about them and meet the filmmakers behind it, Rob Briscoe and Andy Morrow.

4. Birmingham Restaurant Week

5. Homewood Library Block Party

Saturday, Aug. 17 | 5-8 p.m.
Homewood Public Library Parking Lot

It’s time for the biggest block party of all, back for the fifth year to benefit our favorite library. Play corn hole and listen to live music while your kids enjoy the bounce houses, a climbing wall and more fun activities. Tickets are $25 for adults (ages 16+) and $5 for children (ages 4-15).  Admission for children 3 and under is free with adult purchase. Get tickets in advance at homewoodlibraryfoundation.org or do so at the door.

6. HHS Football Games

Aug. 22 + 30 | 7 p.m.
Waldrop Stadium

Bring on the Friday night lights! Homewood High School’s Varsity football team (and band) are kicking of the season with two home games, first against Hueytown and then against Vestavia Hills. Don your red and blue, and we’ll see you there.

7. Bill Bugg and Friends Part 3

Aug. 22-25
Homewood Theatre, Brookwood Village

Bill Bugg is coming back to Homewood Theatre with an all new cavalcade of cabaret to kick off the season. He and his friends will be singing show tunes and standards backed by a swinging combo. It will also be the theatre’s first production in their new home in Brookwood Village. Get your tickets at homewoodtheatre.com.

8. Bell Center Tailgate Challenge

Saturday Aug. 24 | 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

You don’t have to wait for Labor Day to start tailgate season. Stop by tents for teams all over the SEC and beyond to for tasty treats at this event to support The Bell Center for Early Prevention Programs. Plus, there will be live music and kids activities, and celebrity judges will be on hand to judge each of the teams on most team spirit, best tasting food and best all around. Tickets, $15 and free for children 12 and younger, can be purchased at thebellcenter.org.

9. Back to School Bash

Saturday, Aug. 24 | 4:30-8:30 p.m.
Homewood Patriot Park

The end of summer doesn’t have to mean the end of fun. Come out for rides, bounce houses, food and live music—and seeing the friends and neighbors you missed this summer. Admission is free, but unlimited attractions wristband must be purchased for $10 each, with proceeds going to the Homewood High School Band.
